The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is still expected to bring rains over Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan, raising the risk of flooding and landslides, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday.
“So, be careful, especially in areas that have experienced rain in recent days, due to the risk of flooding and landslides,” Veronica C. Torres, PAGASA weather specialist, said in a 5:00 a.m. press briefing in Filipino.
Ms. Torres said the ITCZ is a cloud band formed through the convergence of winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, bringing rainy weather conditions to the affected areas.
Meanwhile, areas of Batanes and the Babuyan Islands are likely to experience cloudy skies with light rains caused by the northeasterly windflow, PAGASA said.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience localized thunderstorms, with threats of flooding and landslides during severe thunderstorms.
PAGASA has not monitored any weather disturbances within the Philippine Area of Responsibility since tropical cyclone Choi-Wan exited its monitoring domain.
Ms. Torres said the country is in a transition period toward the northeast monsoon, locally known as Amihan, following the termination of the southwest monsoon or Habagat on Monday. — Edg Adrian A. Eva
